Research

We only learn more about our world if we are also willing to really look.

Currently, I am pursuing a PhD with the Department of Theatre at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. My research finds itself at the intersection of applied theatre, animal studies, and ecopsychology;
it focuses on raising awareness that all life on earth (humas, other animals, and nature) is intertwined,
as well as on supporting the development of a relational ecological identity in young people.

I took my first steps as a researcher as a student at the Utrecht School of the Arts

"I got to know Ruth when we collaborated on a study about music education. When conducting interviews and group discussions, she has the talent to immediately create an atmosphere in which everyone feels at ease and recognized, and to encourage participants to make a valuable contribution. She offers opportunities for sidesteps without losing sight of the bigger picture, and has the valuable ability to not only hear what is said, but especially what is not. Afterwards, she is able to translate what she hears into useful recommendations and creative ideas on how to follow up on them, making use of her extensive knowledge on cultural education and participation. This made Ruth an indispensable addition to our team, and a very pleasant colleague to work with."
